About Chatsworth
Situated at Scone in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, Chatsworth Park has been owned by the Justin family since 1991. In 2004 Chatsworth Park commenced operation as a thoroughbred farm and during this time the operation has grown significantly with the focus being to offer thoroughbred breeders the highest level of care and service at affordable prices.
Chatsworth Park is a family-owned and operated thoroughbred farm providing expertise, experience, and exceptional knowledge to provide the very best care for your equine investment.
Chatsworth Park comprises of two properties totalling 620 acres of rich alluvial soils, set in a picturesque valley with an abundant water supply from the Dartbrook Creek. Both properties offer excellent facilities and are well-appointed for mare reproduction, foaling, and spelling. The expertise, experience, and knowledge offered by the family and the highly qualified and dedicated professionals associated with the farm, together with the quality feed and facilities, assure our owners of the perfect environment and the best care and individual attention for their horses.
The stud proprietors, Kym and Karen Justin, together with their children Ben, Kate and Heath, are all involved with every aspect of the farm. Kym, Karen, and Heath are hands-on with the horses and manage the day-today operation of the farms. Coming from rural and farming backgrounds, the family has a depth of knowledge not only with livestock but also with the growing of hay and pastures. This, together with industry experience both here and abroad, enables them to use these skills to meet their client’s needs, achieving the best results.
Meet Our Team
Kym & Karen Justin
Kym and Karen both grew up with a background in farming, cattle, and horses. After careers in the RAAF and the Electricity Commission in NSW, they decided to return to their agricultural roots and purchased a 320-acre property to start a dairy farm. When the dairy industry deregulated, they transitioned to breeding thoroughbred horses on a new 100-acre property. The Chatsworth Park Thoroughbred Horse Agistment and Breeding Stud, which they established in 2004, has been in operation for 20 years, and Kym and Karen are still actively involved in all aspects of the farms.
Heath Justin
Heath has grown up at Chatsworth Park and has always been involved with horses and the farms. After High School, Heath studied a Bachelor of Equine Management at Charles Sturt University in Orange. Heath was the recipient of the 2012 scholarship from the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association to undertake the world-renowned Irish National Stud course where he won a major award for Continual Assessment for his efforts. Heath is the manager for all aspects of the farm, from mare reproduction, spellers, pastures, hay making and transporting horses.
Kate Justin
Also growing up in Scone on the farm, Kate has spent her time with horses and cattle. After completing a Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Economics at the University of New England, Kate worked in Agribusiness banking before travelling extensively overseas. While overseas, Kate gained further experience working on a mare reproduction warm blood stud in Yorkshire. On returning from travelling, Kate did our foaling for two years and also completed a Masters of Teaching (Secondary). She now works as a Rural Financial Councillor and returns home to help with the foaling and enjoys riding.
Ben Justin
Ben grew up with horses and cattle . After completing a Commerce Degree at University of New England and spending a few years working in Accounting and Financial Planning Ben has now also completed a Diploma in Property Valuation. Ben gained extensive experience both in Australia and the UK working on several different thoroughbred operations throughout the United Kingdom where his last position before returning to Australia was Assistant Stud Groom of Juddmonte Farms European headquarters Banstead Manor stud for 3 years.
Maggie Meissner
Maggie comes from a horse-riding background and was previously employed by an Equine Veterinary Practice in Newcastle before joining Chatsworth Park in 2022. During her time there, she was involved in all aspects of Equine Veterinary Nursing and administration.
Maggie is the assistant manager at the stud.
Jim Cox
Jim is the farmer on Chatsworth Park. He is a local to the area. He has been raised and worked on farms for most of his life. Jim has years of experience hay making , planting and maintenance of pastures, irrigation and fencing.
Jim is a motorcycle enthusiast.
